The music world is mourning the loss of Atlanta rapper DJ Unk, as his wife shares new details about his final moments.
Two days after his unexpected passing, Sherkita Long-Platt confirmed the news in an emotional Facebook post on Friday, January 24. She wrote, “Please respect me and my family. I just lost my husband, and my kids just lost their father. Our life will never be the same. I LOVE YOU ANTHONY FOREVER.” She did not share the cause of death at the time.
By Sunday, January 26, she told TMZ that DJ Unk, whose real name was Anthony Leonard Platt, died peacefully in his sleep after going into cardiac arrest. She also said he had no history of drug use, addressing speculation surrounding his death.
DJ Unk was best known for his 2006 hit “Walk It Out,” which reached No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and sparked a national dance craze. He played a key role in the snap music wave that shaped Southern hip-hop in the mid-2000s. His music was a staple at parties, gyms, and neighborhood events.
A candlelight vigil is planned for Sunday evening in his Atlanta neighborhood. Fans and loved ones are expected to gather and celebrate his life. The Atlanta Falcons were among those who paid tribute, writing, “Rest in Peace, DJ Unk.”
