A routine traffic stop in Douglas County turned into a shocking discovery when deputies found 21-year-old Malachi Mitchell dead inside a vehicle near I-20 and Thornton Road on January 29. The driver, who was also in the car, was taken in for questioning but later released.
Authorities have not confirmed how Mitchell died or why the car was initially pulled over.

However, the situation has raised more questions than answers, especially after reports surfaced that Mitchell was meeting someone to sell a firearm before his death. Despite an alleged confession from the driver, no arrests have been made.
Since the incident, threats have reportedly been made against the driver and his family, prompting increased police patrols. The ongoing investigation has left Mitchell’s loved ones searching for answers, with his mother describing him as a well-respected leader from a strong family background.
