Spelman College and Morehouse College have received a $2 million donation from alumni siblings to support students and future growth at both institutions.

Dr. Christine Ruth Crawford, a Spelman alumna, and her brothers, Dr. George I. Crawford Jr. and Dr. Marcus H. Crawford, both Morehouse graduates, made the $2 million donation. Each college will receive $1 million.

At Spelman College, the funding will support the school’s unrestricted annual fund and endowment, giving the college flexibility to respond to changing student needs. At Morehouse College, the donation will be split between the endowment and a new Campus Center focused on innovation and collaboration.

The siblings said their decision to give reflects what the schools provided them. In statements shared by the colleges, they said they grew up knowing you give back to the places that allow you to grow and succeed.

Their connection to the schools spans generations. Their father graduated from Morehouse College in 1962 and remained closely connected to the college, helping shape their commitment to give back.

School officials said the $2 million donation, including unrestricted funding, will help support students, address immediate needs, and strengthen long-term planning.

The donation adds to ongoing fundraising efforts at both schools aimed at expanding access and supporting future students across Atlanta.
