Georgia Gov.-elect Keisha Lance Bottoms has named Atlanta filmmaker Tyler Perry as one of 10 co-chairs of her transition team.
Bottoms announced the team, called “Georgia’s Promise,” on Friday at the State Capitol, three days after making history as the first Black woman elected governor in U.S. history. She introduced Perry, 57, as an entertainment mogul and philanthropist who owns Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta.
Perry, a Louisiana native, has lived in Atlanta for more than three decades. In 2019, he opened a 330-acre studio complex featuring 12 sound stages.
Other co-chairs include Atlanta Falcons owner and Home Depot co-founder Arthur Blank, former Walgreens Boots Alliance CEO Rosalind Brewer, Carter Center board chair Jason Carter and former nonprofit executive Michelle Nunn.
Honorary co-chairs include U.S. Sens. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock and former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young.
Bottoms also named John King, who served as Atlanta’s chief operating officer during her time as mayor, to oversee the transition team’s operations.
Gov. Brian Kemp offered his administration’s support to help ensure a smooth transition, Bottoms confirmed.
Bottoms said her team will focus on affordability, health care and public education, issues Georgians raised during the campaign. She said the goal is to be “ready to govern on day one.”
Bottoms is scheduled to take office in January 2027.
