The National Football League says it is closely monitoring the case involving Atlanta Falcons linebacker James Pearce Jr., who could have his charges dismissed after entering a Florida pre-trial intervention program.

The agreement places the case on hold for six months. If Pearce meets all conditions, the charges will be dropped. The terms do not require jail time or an admission of guilt.

He was facing multiple felony charges, including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, fleeing and eluding police, and resisting an officer with violence.

Pearce was arrested in February in Doral, Florida, following a domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend, WNBA player Rickea Jackson, that led to a police chase and crash.

He fled the scene and was taken into custody after a brief pursuit. Pearce was later released on bond, and a protective order was issued preventing contact with Jackson.

His attorney, Yale Sanford, said the agreement was reached in consultation with the city of Doral, along with the victim and responding officers, who agreed to the resolution after discussions with the state attorney’s office.

As part of the program, he is expected to meet conditions that may include attending therapy sessions and staying out of trouble over the six-month period.

The NFL has not announced any disciplinary action.
